It is easy for us to be afraid. Even though we are capable of many things, there is much that we do not control. Yet, God often tells us to fear not. How is that possible?
The answer to fear comes through understanding God’s victory. Living our lives now is a little like watching a football game after the fact when we already know the final score. We may still watch to see how the plays work out but we know how it will end. We may not like knowing the final score in a football game before we have seen the game. In life, though, it is comforting to know that God has won the victory and one day we will see the fulfillment of the renewal He is bringing.
Knowing the end of the story is comforting, first, because we know that, through the work of Jesus, God has defeated evil. God is in control. One day He will make everything right. The Bible tells us in Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” No matter what you might be going through now, there will come a day when God will make everything right.
Knowing the end of the story is also comforting because God tells us that, on the way to making everything right, He is with us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:20b, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
When we believe in Jesus we can be certain that we will enjoy the perfect eternity with Him. When we believe in Jesus we can be certain that He is always with us. When we believe in Jesus we can live life without fear.
